Stitching recap Saturday January 20, 2024

Before I head into the office today, I thought that I would post a stitching recap for the week.

Most nights during year end/tax season, the only thing I want at night is quiet time where thinking is minimal and repetitive to relax with. Cross stitch is perfect for that, unlike knitting where I need to think more.

Last year, for New Years, some friends and I started a SAL for the Prairie Schooler Christmas Village pattern. One friend has finished hers! I hope to have mine done by the end of February. Current status:

That same friend who finished hers and I started a SAL for Mirabilia’s Raven Queen. This one is going well because I defaulted to my go to fabric (14 count aida) and I’m stitching in hand.

It’s the first time that I have used Caron Waterlilies in cross stitch and I love the feel of them!

For a fun travel project, I’m stitching on the Chicken Club from Lori Holt. Again using a 14 count aida for enjoyment. I hope to finish one a month and hang them in my kitchen.

Most projects going forward will either be on 14 or 16 count aida. I struggle to see 18 count. And while I can stitch on evenweave and love the look of it, I must use magnification beyond my glasses. That makes it difficult to stitch in hand in my rocker/recliner, which is where I like to stitch. I do use (and sell) the scroll rod frames and stands my husband builds (Celtic Spring is currently on mine using 28 count), but for short stitching sessions at night, I love my rocker/recliner.

Lastly, I plan to soon pick up another piece that was set aside when I was just back into stitching as it seemed overwhelming at the time. This one I’m hoping my husband will build a custom frame for. I have fond memories of reading Poe growing up and fell in love with this at first sight. Nevermore by Lila’s Studio. (This fabric is more purple than the picture shows.)

In another month or so greenhouse duties will start taking more time and stitching will reduce until the garden is in the ground, so I’m making the most of the time available now.

I still have the grey sweater for my cousin on the needles. It’s slow going as I’ve had to make multiple adjustments to the pattern for fit and requires both dexterity in my thumbs and brain space to follow my notes, both of which are in short supply right now at the end of the day. Perhaps next update I’ll have measurable progress to show on it.
