Almost spring

That’s what I’m telling myself. And this week, I may believe it. According to the two week extended forecast there are only three nights that drop into the 30’s.

I started my seeds for this year’s garden the other day in the greenhouse. Mostly tomato and peppers and some herbs. I seem to have a lot of direct sow vegetables planned for this year. Those will wait another 6-7 weeks before they’re thought about. Well, except the peas, they need to go into the ground soon. Maybe next week. .

The majority of the direct sow being 6-7 weeks away gives me plenty of time to revamp the garden. One thing I noticed last year was that even with the kids help, weeding was difficult for me. Of course that was before I was under a rheumatologist care, but still. So this year we plan to revamp the garden to raised beds that I can sit on a rolling cart to weed.

Will I need that this year? I don’t actually know as I’m doing so much better. But, will I eventually need it, absolutely. So the plan is to get the structure in place while I’m able to.

And while today isn’t a garden day as I have a class this morning and studio work to do, it can be a planning day.

Studio work? I have a couple customer quilts here to work on and the guild’s November 2025 raffle quilt for which I’m trimming blocks and removing papers today so that the top can be pieced later this week.

I love having a turnable cutting mat! It makes squaring blocks so much easier, especially with the proper sized ruler.

And as always, my day started before even the dogs woke up.

I hope there are signs of spring in your area. And I’m hoping we don’t go from winter almost directly into extreme heat this year. A longer springtime would be so nice!!

  1. It’s been oddly warm here in Chicagoland – my daffodils are pushing up. It was 74 yesterday and it’s 65 today, even with the high wind warnings we have at the moment, it really feels like spring even though it could quite conceivably snow again here . . . 😀
