Let’s talk a little today about longarm quilting.
The quilt on the frame today is a type of bargello which I don’t have permission to share in it’s entirety.
But it has a LOT of vertical seams.

To control the straightness of those seams, I pull out a measuring tape that I’ve had for 20 years. It has little moveable plastics on it.

I use these plastic pieces to mark certain seams so as I move down the quilt, I can be reassured that it’s not twisting or going askew.

The tape measure is a center zero, but as this quilt isn’t centered on the backing, the zero part isn’t relevant. It’s not centered as the backing is a wide back and the best way to conserve usable fabric for this customer is to offset it on the longarm.

If the quilt was centered on the backing, then I could also use the measurement markings to make sure it was staying straight.
I also use this tape measure to mark the edges of the backing, which helps reduce the possibility of pleats or creases in the back.

Just a little quilting talk on this day before a cold and rainy predicted day.
