I voted this morning. I hope that everyone who is eligible to vote has done so or will before the polls close! I truly believe it is our civic duty to vote. I also believe in thoroughly researching every candidate for each office on your particular ballot.

Do I hope the candidates that I support win, obviously.

Do I hate those regular Americans with differing views? No. I may not understand them or their decisions, but the beautiful thing about this country is that we do have the opportunity to vote and to have differences while still remaining Americans. We are a melting pot.

Will I spend the evening watching the polls and getting myself worked up over the outcome? No, I think I’ll spend my evening attempting to crochet an “emotional support chicken” for those children who have been impacted by the historic weather in WNC. I know exactly who to send them to for the children to receive them.

Does that concept interest you? If so, there’s a group on Facebook “Emotional Support Chickens for Helene” that is local and could use your support. And they can be either crocheted or knitted, I just fell in love with the crocheted granny square ones

What is an emotional support chicken? It’s a handmade stuffed chicken! Here are a few pics I’ve snagged from the web.

Aren’t they adorable? And if it brings comfort to a child (or adult) when their world has been torn to pieces having a stuffed toy, then that’s a little bit of brightness in anxious times.

  1. what a very kind and creative gesture. Sometimes it’s easy to think of the big things lost, but the children can’t process it all. They need more emotional support than we will ever know. Cute little chickens!

  2. I’ve been wanting to learn crochet. Thinking about trying out those Woobles that teach you how. I’m with you on wishing the hatred on different political views would go away. It makes me heartsick.
